June 28th Event Day 2009 Costume Designer - Walk the Plank
A largescale event in Portsmouth , Castlefields - celebrating 500
years at Portsmouth Historical Dockyards - King Henry VIII , Parkour
performers and 500 Students . Commissioned to create costumes and site
decor, workshops & inset days with teachers for the Pennants & flags .
Mary Rose Pennants made traditionally from silk as in the 1500’s to
complement the restructured ghostly ship which will be 25 metres
length, 7 metres high. Finale spectacular pyrotechnics .

Following Kinetikas successful bid to produce and present the Bangla
Queen for the grand opening of The Uk Centre for Carnival Arts , Luton
May 3rd 2009 , Kinetika Arts International have commissioned me to
assist with the design of costumes prepare the designs into working
designs , pattern cutting, produce the costumes, headdresses plus
school workshops and the making of the Largescale costume and
headdress for the Queen , with the talented Kinetika team and Artistic
Director Ali Pretty we will produce an amazing showcase to stun the
audience .
The Bangla Queen will also be showcased in Brick Lane , East London
for the Boishaka Mela on the 10th May 2009 & Luton Carnival 25th May

14th March 2008 Lead artist Tutor - Carnival Couture. Private workshop
tuition for artists from Flying Colours. Devon funded by the Arts
Council for a series of carnival workshops covering all aspects

14th February 2009 - Lead artist and Costume Designer commissioned by Sharon George/Costume Director
from the Arts Unit ,Ryde.IOW. Half term 5 day costume camp at the Arts Unit Ryde 2 carnival costumes, Backpacks and Headdresses created with 11-16 year olds. Research and design briefed from Casino/ Las Vegas/ Gambling.

21st February 2009 - Research visit Venetian Carnevale
self funded to Venice, Italy, this years theme : “The Senses”, spectacular costumes showcased in San Marco Square. Pictures on website and Facebook.

8th Jan - 17th Feb 2009. Bangalore India
Lead Artist, Asst Designer/Costume design residency with the
students of NIFT. Kinetika the team create the look & costumes for the
Festival Inaugural.The performance showcase held at the Chowdaiah
Memmorial Hall, Alliance francais , Max Mueller Bhavan and Ranga
Shankara
Twenty one performances by dance troupes from 11 countries across the
globe including Korea, Switzerland, Kenya, Canada, USA, Belgium,
Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Portugal and India will be a part of the
festival. Announcing these developments to the media from the
conference at the Taj Hotel , Bangalore on Tuesday were Jayachandran
Palazhy, artistic director of Attakkalari Centre of Movement Arts; and
Ali Pretty, founder, Carnival Designer and Artistic Director of
Kinetika and her team of artists, a performing arts company.

2008-October 27th-31st Historic Dockyard Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays .
Commissioned by Walk the Plank
Lead Artist for ‘Voyage East’ workshops/ design of Galleon
ship/seabirds.Passing families involved themselves with their creative
skills to craft Chinese paper lanterns and headdresses in the Historic
Dockyard alongside workshops in hangar B .
A largescale design of a Galleon ship /2 large seabirds were made from
willow, tissue paper, and produced for procession which left HMS
Victory ending on the Gunwharf seafront for the Grand Firework Finale,
10,000 spectators enjoyed the display. The Historic Dockyard and
Gunwharf Quays worked closely with Walk the Plank who are experienced
at delivering large scale, multi-cultural celebratory events.

2008 26th September -East london communitie s come together to
celebrate the launch of the london 2012 Cultural Olympiad event through
the arch of imaginationcelebrates the launch of the londons Olympiad in
Bishops square Spitalfields london borough of tower hamlets working
with kinetika and theatre veniue...Kinetika ‘warded the prestigous
“”inspired by 2012” mark by LOCOG given only to a handful of exciting
new projects across the Uk that are cultural events or activities
inspired by London 2012.
My involvement was assisting with Kinetika team design, patten cutting
, artist led workshops and production of costumes

2008- 7th September - Bognor Regis Paralympic Handover
i-Pavoni costumes headdresses / costumes , Largescale Soriani backpack/
costume and Mannequin props were hired by the regional Arts Officer to
host the event for VIP’s and the i-Pavoni costumed performers delighted
the spectators with a brief dance presentation, they also hosted the
event as visual walkabouts. Silk Batik flags were used outsiade as Site
Decor for the VIP Marquee

2008- 17th September. East meeets West Twilight Spectacle
Walk the Plank etc Event day County Weald Park Brentwood, an original
historic hunting ground for King Henry 8th,assisting and dressing
performers for the twilight spectacle evening show which was awesome.
2008 - 9/10th - 17th September.East meets West Twilight Spectacle.
Country Weald Park Essex
Walk the Plank, Creative Partnerships, Brentwood Borough Council,The
Jack Petchey Foundation, Thames Gateway and BT.
A unique event in Weald Country Park, Brentwood, a first major outdoor
performance of the Essex - Jiangsu Cultural Festival.
I was involved with 2 Essex school workshops to create headdresses
reflecting the cultural theme, amalgamating the pupils designs to form
2 overall designs . Also was commissioned to design/ produce 4
stunning headdresses and costumes for the performing stiltwalkers in
the show by Walk the Plank.

August 2008 - Commissioned by Kinetika to Prototype and produce Rivers
of silk which were then taken to the summer Uni at Central Foundation
and batiked /dyed by the students

Kinetika created 24 hand dyed and painted silk banners each banner 3.5m
long and 2.80m wide, in total 168 metres of silk! The banners were
decorated using a batik technique to script the text of a poem.
100 local participants held the banners creating the river of silk used
to open the 350m High cross shopping Centre in Leicester on the 4th
Sept 2008.

2008 - 24th August - Southend, Coventry Olympic Handover Event Days.
Make-up/ Costume and Crewing for the Event day for a breathtaking
performance on the seafront with embellished Water Goddess. Southend
Olympic FlagHandover Performance for Kinetika and Walk the Plank.Also
the costume made in Summer Uni is being performed on 24th
August,Coventry Olympic Handover Celebrations.

2008 22nd August -Kinetika Bloko Germination Performance at the Queen
Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London. Assisting with event sewing ,
repairs, rigging of largescale puppet and backpacks .

2008 - 18-22nd August - Central Foundation School Tower Hamlets Summer
Uni,East London Lead Artist teaching Carnival Costume, creating the
East London Pearly Queen largescale costume 20ft high. Germination
costumes for ION producing from the prototype the designed Vortex
costumes to go on performance for the Olympic Handover for Coventry
-24th August and to be paraded Mayor Thames Festival September 2008

2008 7th- 15th August-Southend Olympic Handover Workshops Lead Artist
for general public who will assist and perform for the handover of the
Olympic flag Event in Southend on sea for the 24th August 2008.
Workshops are dyeing/batiking fish windsocks / wave flags.

2008 - 25/26th June. Venetian , Mask Decoration methods school
workshops in Uxbridge School for company called Trap media
2008 -19th June. Weald Country Park Project being visualised in
September as a large outdoor theatrical performance with Walk the
Plank / Kinetika Headdresss workshops initial collaberations wih
directors /artists.
2008- 14/15th June- Fulham Goddess Mother of Imagination created
largescale 20ft costume for Fulham performance/commission Kinetika
2008 - 13th June - The Lift in Stratford. attended VIP opening of
The new mobile Festival venue designed by architects AOC in
collaberation of hundreds of East Londoners designed for interactive

2008 - !2th June - IOW Festival- Researched/Designed Costumes “Earth
Magic by Helen Davenport “ which were produced at Mas camp/ Venture
Quays for the Arts Unit as a commission for The Nice Carnaval 2008.
Later the costumes were hired from Arts Unit by Annie Horne to decorate
The Big Top at The Isle of Wight Festival 2008 and also used as
visual walkabouts to enhance the site.Retro Silk Batik flags again
gracing their presence at The Big Top were on local island newspaper,
front page County Press.

 

April 2008 Gunwharf - Portsmouth Voyage East, Boishakhi Mela Shola workshops, decor for shopping Centre with Bunting and 6 metre banner for the bangladeshi community.

Nice Carnival - joined the Isle of Wight Carnival Learning Centre performance group for a 5 day working and research visit to the Nice Carnival February 2008

Gunwharf Quay's Chinese New Year Celebrations - worked in conjunction with Claire Kay on the production of 20 small and 12 large Willow and Tissue Lanterns and a 5 meter wide banner for site specific display.

January 2008 - Ran Mas Camp to produce large scale king's, Queen's and Individual costumes from my designs for "Earth Magic" a commission from the Isle of Wight Carnnival Learning Centre to be ready for display at the Nice Carnival February 2008

Richmix East London - Ali Pretty's Illustrative designs for me to create patterns and producing all costumes also tutoring making of mas students with the involvement of production in sewing skills. These costumes , headdresses etc went to Beijing with Kinetika Bloko representing London at The Beijing Olympic Cultural festival and also performing on the Great China Wall. 23 rd June - 5th July
